At The River we are a family who enjoy life in response to knowing that God loves us and desires relationship with us.

We have a hope-filled future because of that love and we want you to know how loved you are.

Our church family meets at North Avenue Christian Centre, North Avenue, Chelmsford, CM1 2AL at 10.00am on Sundays. We start with refreshments and a chance to chat to one another, with worship starting at 10.30am.

Our emphasis on a Sunday is encountering the presence of God together and receiving revelation from God, whether that be through teaching or spiritual gifts. Our meetings are usually a mix of worship, prayer, a talk and ministry and we welcome people of all ages and stages.

We have dedicated children’s work which takes place twice a month aged 2–11. We also run some youth sessions on Sunday mornings and at other times.

Coming to visit?

We know that visiting a church for the first time can be intimidating and we want your visit to The River to be a great one! When you arrive, head through the main entrance and a member of our welcome team would love to chat.

If you would like to get in touch before your visit, please fill out the contact form below. We also have some handy FAQs for you below too to help you know more about what to expect.

We want church to be a place you feel comfortable so you won’t find a strict dress code here. Generally something modest and comfortable should be fine.

We serve refreshments from 10am where you’ll receive a warm welcome. Then, from 10.30am our worship services include praising God in song, preaching from God’s word to inspire, challenge and equip us, responding to God through generosity and time for prayer ministry. We also have time to chat together and socialise.

We want all children and young people to feel valued and get to know their Father God and how much He loves them. On Sunday mornings, our children and young people join us for the first part of the meeting then leave part way through for the following groups:

Wildfire: School Year 6+
Firestarters: Younger children

We have guest parking near the front entrance. Once inside a member of our welcome team will greet you and you can grab refreshments to your left as you enter the church hall.

For us, being a member is not a barrier to participation, it is a commitment to make The River your church home. As such, membership is not required to participate in any aspect of worship, communion, or serving.
